In this post, you’ll find the best ideas for celebrating Galentine’s Day with your lady friends.
If you don’t know what Galentine’s Day is, it is a holiday created by Leslie Knope, a fictional character from the TV series Parks and Recreation, that is dedicated for women to celebrate women. This iconic holiday falls on the day before Valentine’s day, February 13th, and is celebrated breakfast style.
“Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th my lady friends an I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” – Leslie Knope
But we don’t have to stop at breakfast! This day is all about getting together with your closest girlfriends and celebrating each other, so why not make the most out of it, right? But of course, don’t forget to be COVID safe! You can still use these ideas to celebrate the holiday virtually, within your social bubble, or even outdoors.
This post will show you activities and decorating ideas for Galentine’s day so that you can make the most out of this amazing holiday.
BEST IDEAS FOR GALENTINE’S DAY
1. Brunch (AKA waffles galore 🤩🤪)
The whole holiday in the show is based around a breakfast get together, so I just can’t leave out brunch. Also, brunch is probably the best meal to ever exist, so I’m not complaining!
Get your lady friends together and get cooking! Cooking with friends is WAY more enjoyable than by yourself and plus, it’s a whole activity itself!
As for the menu, try to keep it simple! Especially if you are sticking to a budget, stick to the basics! Here are some ideas of what you can include in the meal: waffles (of course), eggs, bacon/sausage, hash browns, roasted breakfast potatoes, fruit salad, pancakes, frittatas, and avocado toast just to name a few.
Now that the food is out of the way, let’s talk about table place settings. This is an easy way to spice up how you enjoy your meal to make the occasion all the more special. And the best part, you can keep it budget-friendly with disposable items! Below are two table setting themes for you to explore.

2. Movie Night
Who doesn’t love a chill movie night in with the girls? Or even a Netflix party while on Facetime? There’s literally nothing to hate about it.
And for Galentine’s day, maybe spice it up with some #girlboss content. Here are my top 5 picks for a Galentine’s Day movie/tv show binge night:
- Parks and Recreation – Season 2, Episode 16 – Galentine’s Day
- Girlboss – Netflix Original Series
- Legally Blonde
- Miss Congeniality
- Confessions of a Shopaholic
3. Baking
Who else thinks dessert is the most important part of a meal? Haha…jokes aside, chocolates and sweets are a must for Galentine’s Day! You can bake anything from cookies to brownies to even a cake.
Want to bake chocolate chip cookies? You can use my super easy Biscoff Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe! Just remove the Biscoff butter and Biscoff chunks for a classic chocolate chip cookie.
4. PowerPoint Night
If you do not know what this trend is, you are missing out. Basically, you and your friends make powerpoint presentations beforehand on any topic of your choice and then when you get together, you present them to each other. This light hearted, laid-back, and fun activity is perfect for a night in with the girls on Galentine’s Day. If Leslie Knope were to describe it, I like to think she’d say it’s Secret Santa meets Google Slides. But, minus the secret.
Some ideas for PowerPoint Night topics:
- If we were on Friends, here’s who each of us would be
- Rating the Snapchat screenshots that I have collected of [Name of friend]
- Meme’s (or TikTok’s) that live in my head rent free
That should give you an idea of what kind of topics can look like for a PowerPoint night. It’s all just jokes.
5. Paint Night
Painting is such a relaxing way to bond with your lady friends! I love following Bob Ross tutorials, but I know that for some it can get…hectic. So, an alternative is a paint by number set! You can check Amazon for some great options.
DECORATING IDEAS
I love setting the mood with some decor. It’s my favorite! And it doesn’t have to be super complicated. There are simple, budget friendly options that can help get you festive for this Galentine’s Day. Plus, they make cute backgrounds for pictures. They’re ~multipurpose~.
6. Balloons and Garlands
Honestly, quite basic of an idea. But balloons and garlands make everything better! Add some twinkle lights to the mix and the light bouncing off the balloons will make your space look magical.
7. Flowers
Flowers are a great way to decorate. Fake ones though. Personally, I love a tulip vibe for Galentine’s Day since I think roses are overdone this time of year. And the best part is that you can reuse them for so many other occasions!
8. Photo Backdrop
You can’t have a Galentine’s Day without taking pictures with your girlfriends. Buying a simple backdrop and adding balloons and garlands to the mix will create the perfect set-up for a photoshoot with your gals. You can even grab some flowers and use them as props!
